About the Symposium
The Mervin L Trail Transoral Robotic Surgery (TORS) Symposium aims to equip providers and other healthcare professionals with the knowledge necessary to be abreast with the current evidence and management protocols and considerations as related to HPV+ cancers of the oropharynx. It will specifically address the value addition provided by transoral robotic surgery and advances in radiation therapy that are relevant to creating individualized and evidenced-based treatment plans for our patients.

Meet Our Speakers
Dr. Rula Mualla
Dr. Rula Mualla is an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at LSU Health Sciences Center. She completed her Otolaryngology residency at OHSU in Portland, OR, followed by a fellowship in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Microvascular Reconstruction at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Her clinical interests include endocrine and oncologic surgery, with a focus on transoral robotic surgery and microvascular reconstruction.
Dr. Sagar Kansara
Dr. Sagar Kansara is an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at LSU Health Sciences Center. He completed his fellowship in Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of California – San Francisco. Dr. Kansara’s research interests include neoadjuvant therapy and treatment deintensification in HPV+ oropharyngeal cancer. He is board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr. William Ryan
Dr. William R. Ryan is a Professor at the University of California-San Francisco, specializing in head and neck oncologic surgery. He has extensive expertise in transoral robotic surgery, sialendoscopy, and regional reconstruction. Dr. Ryan is actively involved in research and has authored over 95 peer-reviewed journal articles.
Dr. Sue Yom
Dr. Sue S. Yom is the Irwin Mark Jacobs and Joan Klein Jacobs Distinguished Professor in Head and Neck Cancer Radiation Oncology at UCSF. She is an expert in radiation techniques for HPV+ oropharyngeal cancer and has published extensively in the field. Dr. Yom’s research interests include clinical trials, novel imaging, and quality of life outcomes.
