Hiccups – Phrenic Nerve Block

Ultrasound-guided left phrenic nerve block at the level of the anterior and middle scalene muscles using 2 mL of 0.25% ropivacaine, for treatment of persistent, intractable hiccups. Includes a before-and-after demonstration of hiccup resolution.

This procedure was performed by Arun Kalava, MD, EDRA, a board-certified anesthesiologist and interventional pain physician in Tampa, FL, fellowship-trained in Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Kalava is the Founder and Chairman of the American Society for Post Surgical Pain (ASPSP).
