Bio
Dr. Arun Kalava is a pain physician, anesthesiologist, educator, and healthcare entrepreneur based in Tampa, Florida. He is Founder and Medical Director of TampaPainMD and serves as Founder and Chairman of the American Society for Post-Surgical Pain (ASPSP). His clinical practice focuses on post-surgical pain management, acute pain medicine, regional anesthesia, ultrasound-guided interventions, cryoneurolysis, and multimodal strategies designed to improve recovery after surgery.
Dr. Kalava completed fellowship training in Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He completed anesthesiology residency training at New York Methodist Hospital, where he later served as Chief Resident. Earlier in his career, he completed an internal medicine internship at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Pennsylvania and held clinical appointments in the United Kingdom and Bermuda before pursuing advanced subspecialty training in anesthesiology and pain medicine.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Kalava is actively involved in physician education, research, and professional leadership. He serves as Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of South Florida and Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. He is Founder of Ultrasound Experts, an educational organization focused on ultrasound-guided procedural training, and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Pain Medicine section of StatPearls. Through ASPSP, he leads initiatives dedicated to advancing education, research, advocacy, and multidisciplinary collaboration in post-surgical pain management.
